Quinoa Salad with Baked Salmon Recipe – SORTED



Quinoa is a great alternative to couscous or rice and makes a really healthy summer salad. It’s light and packed full of herbs and lemon goes perfectly with fish.

  1. Love Quinoa, it's texture is so different to anything else, makes a nice change to the usual rice/couscous/pasta, and very high in good quality protein…I've been eating it for around 10years now.  Looking forward to giving this recipe a go…looks GOOOOOOD 🙂

  2. Actually, the reason you need to rinse quinoa (unless the packet says pre-washed) is that the seed is coated with saponin — a soapy-tasting coating that the plant produces as a defense. Not poisonous, but it is bitter. In fact, you'll probably note a kind of sudsiness to the water if you rinse quinoa never rinsed before. And it's not a true cereal grain, as it doesn't come from a grass, but is rather a member of the goosefoot family. It is indigenous to the Andes Mountains in South America, and in fact grows best above 12,000 feet. Because it is a seed, and not  a cereal grain, it actually has a full complement of amino acids — which means that it can offer better nutrition in places that previously didn't have enough protein.

    I do have a request tho!! 🙂 I am a university student.. and it is hard for me to have time to make dinner every single evning 🙁 Can you make something that is tasty, cheap, healthy and ofc easy ^^ ??  I would need a dish I can keep in the fridge for several days(2-3) and maybe something that I can turn into another dish 😀

  5. If you buy the pre washed Quino, (we have it here in the states) you can toast it a bit before you use it. This gives the Quino a nuttier flavor.

    i am always having that as lunch, but i do it greek salad style! love this.
    when i feel indian, i add water with curry instead of vegetable stock. and then add chicken an tomates and cucumber or  whatever is left in the fridge.
