5 Ways to Make the Holidays Easier

Thank you to The UPS Store for sponsoring this post. Make the holiday to-do list a little easier this season with The UPS Store!

The holidays are always fun, but they can get a bit overwhelming. Here are 5 Ways to Make the Holidays Easier so that you have more time to enjoy family!

I love the holidays. I do.

But I have a habit of setting high expectations, taking on too much and ending up a stressed out Mama.

It was so bad in the past that the holidays became a sore subject with my husband.

The last several years, I’ve been working to change the way I do things, and the result has been a much happier and less stressed home. (Because when Mama isn’t happy…you know the rest.)

Here are My Top 5 Ways to Make the Holidays Easier

1. Make a Conscious Effort to Engage in Activities that Relieve Stress

Whether it is doing yoga, getting up a little early to have quiet time to meditate or meeting a friend for coffee, take time out from your busy schedule to de-stress. Another great option is taking a salt bath with relaxing essential oils like lavender.

2. Take the Stress Out of Packing and Shipping Gifts

Speaking of stress, who else get’s stressed when they have to wait in line for an hour to ship a package? Plus, packing items so they arrive safely can be such a hassle. That is why I mail all my gifts from The UPS Store.

With 5,000 location across North America, The UPS Store is such a convenient destination for holiday packing and shipping. It is also great for printing and mail receiving needs. Since I get so much mail, I receive all of my packages at my local UPS Store so that I never have to worry about something sitting out in bad weather.

The wait at my store is never bad, and they have Certified Packing Experts that no just how to pack your items, so they are safe. Their Pack & Ship Guarantee puts my mind at ease!Photo of packing peanuts

Of course, if you are a do-it-yourself type, The UPS Store sells all the supplies you need!

The UPS Store & Toys for Tots Literacy Program

The UPS Store network is the exclusive sponsor of the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. This initiative helps to give less fortunate children the ability to compete academically and succeed by providing them access to resources that will enhance their ability to read.

Through December 31st, participating The UPS Store locations will support the Toys for Tots Literacy Program with an in-center donation card drive. The donations will go to help purchase books for LOCAL children in need. This is such a great and easy way we can get our children involved in helping those in need.

3. Plan an Easy Menu that Can Be Made Ahead

The holidays are the time for catching up with friends and family.

Yes, everyone loves to impress. But resist the temptation to overdo your menu to the point you spend the entire time in the kitchen. Look for recipes that can be made ahead, and try to start prepping up to five days ahead. Doing most of the work ahead of time will minimize your stress and give you more time to enjoy the festivities.

4. Make Time for Fitness

How can adding something to your to-do list make the holidays easier?  Because when you feel good even the most difficult situations become more managable.

It is easy to feel like you can’t possibly add one more thing to your to-do list, but try to find time to work out. It doesn’t have to be an hour, and you don’t even have to do something intense. Just try to get your heart pumping for at least 20 minutes most days. This will not only help manage stress but can also help you stay healthy. (And few things are worse than a sick Mom at Christmas.)

5. Delegate

This is one I struggle with, but it is so important! Whether it is getting the kids in on decorating and cleaning the house or sending your spouse to mail the packages at The UPS Store, don’t try to do it all. As women, we tend to bear the responsibility of so much that surrounds the holidays (gift buys, making sure everyone has clothes for parties, cooking, wrapping), but often those around us are more than willing to help if they are asked.
