The Time That Duct Tape Saved Me

I was tired.

And the only thing that saved me that day was duct tape.

Alex was sixteen months old, and Christian was just two months old. They had both been fighting a cold, one that had all of us agitated and me in a sleep-deprived state that only a mother can fully appreciate.

All babies are fussy when they are sick, and my two little guys were no exception. For days it had seemed like I would get one calmed down, and then the other would get going.

Christian was usually calm and happy, and I would have done anything to soothe my sweet boy.

He let out a big wail, and I began to go through all the usuals you go through as a mom. Was he hungry? Nope.

Ahhh….he did need a diaper.

I stumbled into his room in a daze and without really looking, reached for a diaper. There wasn’t one there.

I headed to the closet where I kept the boy’s supplies and looked for the Pampers Swaddlers, which are the diapers I used on all three of my kids when they were tiny. (Pamper’s are the #1 choice of hospitals!) Not only are Swaddlers Pampers’ softest diaper, but they also offer up to 12 hours of overnight protection.

There were Alex’s Pampers Cruisers in there as well as Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes’, but there wasn’t a Swaddler to be found.

Frantic, I searched for the diaper bag only to discover that it was in the car my husband had.

Christian was screaming at full volume now, but Alex was nowhere to be found.

After five minutes that seemed like thirty, I found him sitting on a shelf in the pantry snacking on an apple. Whew, he was safe.

I caught my breath for a moment and began to search all the usual places a spare diaper might hide.

It was in the kitchen drawer that I discovered the duct tape.

With no other option, I used the duct tape and one of Alex’s diapers to make a make-shift diaper for Christian, MacGyver-style.  At least I knew he’d be dry!

I then did what any self-respecting mom in her thirties would do: I called my Mother.

I am sure it is not the first time in the history of mankind that a baby has had a makeshift diaper held up by duct tape, but it wasn’t my finest momming moment.

When my Mom arrived, Swaddlers in hand, she took one look at me and knew I was at the end of my rope.

In her kindest voice, she made a suggestion.

“You know honey, you can stock up on these things and save yourself a lot of stress.”

At the time, I am not sure I fully appreciated her gentle guidance. What I did appreciate in the moment was her watching the boys and letting me get a shower and some much-needed rest.

Once rested, I realized that as usual, mom was right. As good as I was at keeping our pantry and fridge well-stocked, I needed to do this with household items like diapers too.

I’ve always felt that a full home was a happy home.

Never is this truer than when you have a baby.

That was the last time I ever stressed over diapers because I started stocking up at Sam’s Club. As a mom, there is no better way than to save yourself stress and save money in the process. I am happy to say that because of this, Skye never had a duct-tape diaper!

Right now, Sam’s Club has an offer for $10 off a purchase of 2 Pampers diapers or wipes items, or $18 off a purchase of 3 items. There is no coupon required.

Why I think Sam’s Club is a Mom’s BFF:

Great savings every day and even better savings when they have offers like the current Pampers offer.

You can order your Pampers products at samsclub.com and select Club Pickup. Everything will be waiting for you when you arrive; you don’t even have to leave the car.

Online Shopping

Another great alternative is to go to the Pampers product page on samsclub.com and order Pampers for delivery straight to your door.  This is the way to stock up on Pampers Easy-Ups for your toddler.  I used them when all three of my kids were toddlers, because they give the feel of real underwear while stopping leaks.

If you have a little one in diapers, don’t miss out on this great opportunity to stock up.

It may save your baby from duct tape.
