This year marks my twelfth Mother’s Day as a Mom, and I can still remember my favorite.
Skye was just over a year, and to say that I was tired was an understatement. I was knee deep in deadlines, but my mother-bear personality meant that I had not yet allowed anyone to help with her.
Other than my parents and my husband, no one had changed a diaper, gotten her to sleep or kept her while I took a shower since she was born.
I know – I’m crazy.
But having a baby at 41, I knew she was my last, and I was determined to savor every moment.
Even if it left me a little loopy from exhaustion.
My husband, who isn’t always the best with holidays, knew that mother’s day was important to me that year.
He asked me what I wanted, and I didn’t hesitate to reply.
We were in a beautiful home with a gorgeous pool in Arizona at the time, and what I wanted was to be able to spend the day sitting by the pool and reading a novel.
My gift was Kindle Paperwhite because the sun is so bright there that you can’t read on the iPad outside.
The other thing I asked for is not to have to cook that day.
I got both wishes, and it is a day I will likely never forget. I read for hours, watched the kids while hubby played with them in the pool and enjoyed food that I didn’t have to prepare.
